READ ME! Street Box

In celebration of Washington City Paper’s 30th anniversary in 2011, Pyramid Atlantic artists were commissioned to redesign 10 of the free weekly’s street boxes. Created with Ellen Smyth, our box was an homage to paper boys and our graphic design sensibilities. The process involved multilayered spray-painted typographic stencil applications, complete with a pink polka dot interior. The box now lives on 18th Street in Adams Morgan, blocks away from the graphic design studio where Ellen and I met. The elements, city grime and graffiti artists have all played a part in the changing patina of the box.
